Merge is a home and lifestyle boutique in Tofino specializing in Canadian-made goods for your home, life, and body. From their own line of self-care products to apparel featuring art by local creatives, every product at Merge’s little pink shop is carefully chosen.
Their brand voice fits their mission to encourage customers to intentionally reflect on the care their pouring into their community, the environment, and themselves.
Lines I love:
‘We radiate a quiet confidence when we slip into our favourite piece of clothing.’
‘We believe in lifestyles that celebrate soaking up golden hour hues, reading a book while the coffee is brewing, and dancing along the waves of life.’
Honey and Co. Creative is a branding consultancy that supports beauty and lifestyle brands in magnetizing their dream clients through holistic strategy rooted in human emotion. Chelsea doesn’t crank out cookie-cutter logos or a one-size-fits-all strategy. Instead, she takes the time to dive deep into your values and vision to help you create a brand your audience loves nearly as much as you do.
From honest conversations about mental health and business to playful taglines about living room dance parties, Honey & Co.’s messaging shows readers exactly what to expect when they work with Chelsea.
Lines I love:
‘Taking brands from one of many to ‘the one’.’
‘What the world needs is more of your magic. And we have a feeling it’s gonna be pretty.’
Raise your hand if you choose your beer based on the package design. What about the copy? When it comes to branding and taste, Category 12 Brewing has the perfect concoction.
Category 12 is where microbiologist turned master brewer Michael Kuzyk brings science, art, and great taste together for great beer and pairs it all with even better marketing. By leaning into Kuzyk’s science background, Category 12’s innovative brand messaging is distinct to this brewery and almost as unique as its beer.
Lines I love:
‘Beer worth leaving your career for.’
‘Sometimes decisions are easy, like which beer to share with a friend.’
West Coast Wildflowers is an Indigenous and women-owned boutique on Vancouver Island that proudly features handmade and sustainable products from local creatives. Whether they’re sharing their founding story or showcasing goods, West Coast Wildflowers’ messaging is grounded in their values of community, sustainability, and quality.
Lines I love:
‘We won’t do anything we don’t believe in.’
‘Beautifully hand-crafted and proudly Indigenous.‘
Hotel Zed knows exactly what it is (an Instagram-worthy hotel with one-of-a-kind amenities) and what it isn’t (a pretentious or generic Accent Inn), and its messaging reflects this differentiator. From using playful language like ‘swanky’ and ‘kick ass’ to sharing tips for building the most ‘legendary pillow forts’, this boutique hotel’s website copy stays true to its playful and approachable vibe.
Lines I love:
‘Hotel Zeds are ridiculously fun, unpretentious hotels that look damn good on your Instagram.’
‘Rebels against the ordinary.’
The VOW Cabin’s messaging is simple, serene, and no fuss…exactly what their audience is looking for when planning their Vancouver Island elopement. By keeping its website copy clean and clear, The VOW helps happy couples feel confident in their elopement while still retaining the whimsical vibe that comes with getting married in a Pacific Northwest rainforest.
Lines I love:
‘Grab your lover. Get hitched. Frolic in the forest.’
‘A magical and serene way to say your vows surrounded by nature.’
Who better to help you understand your small business finances than…a small business owner? Or in this case, a former-farm owner/chartered accountant who’s worked with brands like Shopify, Arc’teryx, and number one on this list, Merge.
Then meet Maddy of Field Guide Finance.
Field Guide Finance’s website copy is uplifting and professional while retaining a personal touch that connects deeply with creative entrepreneurs lacking confidence in their finances (and I’m not just saying that because they’re a past Strategy Call client!).
Lines I love:
‘Being a farmer and entrepreneur also reinforced for me how many cards are stacked against small business owners.’
‘Non-traditional finance consulting and mentorship built for creative businesses.’
Simple, nostalgic, and pairs well with a chocolate milkshake. That’s exactly how to describe Burger Crush’s website copy and burgers. Burger Crush prides itself on being a no-frills burger shop and proving that you don’t need to add eye-brow-raising surprises (I’m looking at you, donut burger) to be memorable.
A lesson they take from their fryer to their copy.
Lines I love:
‘Having been kids of the 80s we grew up with no-frills burger shops that were simple, unwaveringly consistent and delicious.’
From its name to its location to its website copy, Surf Grove Campground knows its audience inside and out – surfers, wannabe surfers, and Vancouver Island adventurers. But it also knows a lot of their campers crave a little luxury at the end of a long surf day.
Surf Grove’s website copy perfectly balances the adventurous side of Tofino with the relaxation vacationers seek and the high-quality amenities that push this campground to a new level.
Trust me. Surf Grove promises the nicest campground washrooms you’ve ever seen…and they deliver.
Lines I love:
‘Surfer or not, you’ll love it here.’
You tend to notice more here—like the smell of campfire, lush forest, salty ocean air. It’s in the taste of a perfect s’more or the first refreshing sip of post-surf IPA.’
Wild Bee Florals is a flower farm and floral creative in Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. Part farmer and part florist, founder Thanu keeps sustainability at the heart of Wild Bee Florals’ work and messaging. Emphasis on the connection between communities and nature is clear both in this farm’s website copy, as well as their focus on improvising biodiversity through their farming practices and creating floral designs with locally-produced flowers.
Lines I love:
‘A farmer and floral creative in the Comox Valley.’
‘As we sow our seeds, we cultivate community.’
